Wake Up, Move Onto Different Matters

Literature Text

Let me tell you about sepia-tone
and well-faded fantasies:
sometimes I look over my shoulder,
and am surprised by the sight
of my own wings

people write songs about
addictions
full of cliches and descriptions of
impossibility
they describe love as light
and quicker than the speed of
time;
an adjective laced through the lines
of fingerprints, swollen
disfigured
personal fissures

you rushed,
ran pebbles into your knees
that show black underneath your
sunburn,
wide, awakened, you are
but I only I came to you with sleep,
and a dream for your eyes

you press your nose like a magnet
against my leather seats,
we talk about how we love life and living
but neither of us has the stomach for it
although time after
time
we continue holding onto it tenderly, like an old friend

you are the result of
yourself,
mistakes are hot coals
at the bottom of a chamber pot
or a lightbulb of undeclared
wattage

wake up, move onto different matters.

automate, electricity
undress yourself from your skin
peel away your lungs,
crack an ice cube from it's tray
and let it melt.
slowly.
tasting.
on your tongue.
